Tour itinerary
AM: We kick start our day to unveil the highlights of one of Asia’s most vibrant and welcoming cities, Saigon (as it is still popularly known) is a cultural melting pot with something to offer every traveler. There is no better for visiting Saigon while it passes through a remarkable and rapid phase of transformation will fascinate and delight. Above all, experiencing the heartfelt warmth and humour for which the Saigonese are renowned will stay with you long after you’ve departed for home. We’ll introduce you to the enormous variety of exotic local produce at the sprawling Binh Tay Market in Cholon, the city’s bustling Chinatown, and the colorful Thien Hau Pagoda and Ong temple. Then, a drive through some bustling streets will lead us to Ho Thi Ky Market-
an attractive and enchanting flower market. You can go around to discover an amazingnetwork of alleys in Saigon. The morning will end with a beautiful Vietnamese authentic lunch at a Vietnam’s possible best Pho (rice-noodle soup with beef or chicken) restaurant, Pho Hoa.
PM: In the afternoon, we head back to the city center. District 1 remains the heart of Saigon still with its many historic French-built landmarks.
The Reunification Palace : This is one of the most important buildings in the city. Here on April 30, 1975, what the Vietnamese refer to as the ‘American War' officially ended when tank number 843 of the North Vietnamese Army crashed through the gates of what was, at the time, the residence of the President of the Republic of Vietnam .
- War Remnants Museum : Formerly known as the Museum of American War Crimes , this is a poignant display of the futility of war. Some of the black and white photography in the ‘Requiem' exhibit is particularly touching, dedicated to both foreign and Vietnamese journalists and photographers who perished during the conflict. The exhibit includes the last shots these photographers had taken before their deaths. The courtyard outside contains the spoils of war, namely rusting jets, tanks and cannons captured from the American military machine.
- Notre Dame Cathedral and Old Post Office : Built between 1877 and 1883 this is one of the best examples of classical French colonial architecture. Remarkably every stone used in its creation was shipped from France toVietnam . Her two 40m towers, topped with iron spires dominate the city's skyline. The Old Post Office is another example of French colonial architecture and is also the country's largest post office.
-Former city Hall and Opera House: Ho Chi Minh City Hall or Hôtel de Ville de Saigon was built in 1902-1908 in a French colonial style for the then city of Saigon. It was renamed after 1975 as the Ho Chi Minh City People's Committee. The French colonial-inspired building, based on the Hotel de Ville in Paris, is equally striking during the day or night (when it's illuminated). There's a nice park area at the front of the building where you'll find some seats and a statue of Ho Chi Minh.
